Global Electronic Recycling is proud to officially announce its achievement of the R2V3 certification, one of the highest and most prestigious certifications within the electronics recycling industry for environmentally-friendly, safe and secure data destruction.

“This process embodies our commitment to our communities, our clients and our environment,” said Global Electronic Recycling CEO, Kristina Picciotti.

More about the R2V3 certification

The R2V3 certification—administered by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI)—is the newest version of the R2 global recycling standard, which demands responsible and strict adherence to environmental standards and data protection from certified electronics recyclers. The R2 recycling certification was first created in 2008 in accordance with guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and was recently updated to address relevant changes and demands within the electronics landscape.

The R2V3 certification provides a common set of processes, safety measures and documentation requirements for more than 800 facilities that repair and recycle used electronics across the globe. This rigorous, multi-step certification update includes some key changes, such as:

  • An increased emphasis on data protection
  • Even more robust process requirements
  • Clearly defined intended outcomes

“The newer R2V3 standards promote safe and effective recovery and reuse of IT assets by maintaining greater control over the downstream recycling chain, compliance with domestic and international laws, and reliance on internal versus external data sanitization requirements,” explained Picciotti.

To earn this certification, Global Electronic Recycling underwent and completed an extensive, months-long independent audit, and was able to prove compliance with all new R2V3 certification standards. These standards include health and safety benefits, a secure process for recovering and/or reusing electronics, minimizing legal risk and liability and a third-party verified electronics review, among other certification requirements. Global Electronic Recycling is now trained and licensed to use the R2V3 standards to help protect the data security of the electronics recycled, repaired and resold through different channels.
